MONKEES DAY I MONKEES DAY II Monkees Brasil - The Monkees Site in Brazil Monkees_Brasil Discussion Group Fanzine Monkees Brasil Monkees Day in Portuguese "The Monkees" and guitar logo ® Rhino Records Inc. |
The "Monkees Day" has been thought of as an worldwide event to be held on September 12 (or on the weekend closest to this date) every year. Its objective is raising funds for a beneficent cause to be chosen according to local peculiarities and needs. This is our tribute to "The Monkees" for so many years of joy they have given us by means of their outstanding artistical talents and charming personalities. The first "Monkees Day" was held on September 11, 2004 in Sao Paulo, SP. About thirty people attended. This party collected money and packages of imperishable goods for the "ABC Group", a local beneficent institution that takes care of elderly people, families and mothers-to-be lacking assistance.
We had a cheerful festival of monkee sounds and images, including some rare and precious material.
The second Monkees Day occurred on September 10, 2005 in Sao Paulo, SP. The number of attendants totalized 50 people. This time the institution which received the donations was "GRAACC - Grupo de Apoio ao Adolescente e à Criança com Câncer" (Group of Support to the Adolescent and to the Child with Cancer). The donations were constituted of hygiene products and food. Many activities were developed: projections of rare video materials, a game, an amateur show, prizes and — most important than everything — a warm confraternization among all the participants (pictures here). The next "Monkees Day", the third one, is going to happen on September 16,2006. It will follow the last one's scheme but we are planning some nice surprises (after all, it's the 40th anniversary!). The non-profit organization to receive the donations is Casa Vida ("House of Life"), a home for abandoned, HIV-positive children. (Learn more about Casa Vida reading this article in English.) It's our hope that this idea will eventually be followed by other groups of Monkees fans all over the world. After all, is there a better way of paying homage to our idols than giving human beings in need a little relief and comfort? We were born to love one another |
